The National Center for Rural Health Professions located at the University of Illinois regional health science campus in Rockford, Illinois is offering Rural Interprofessional Health Professions Summer Preceptorships this summer.
St. Mary’s Hospital will again host a six-week preceptorship in Centralia, Illinois. The preceptorship beings June 11th and ends July 23rd, 2014.
Six students will be selected. The ideal candidate is from a rural community and enrolled in a graduate or professional level health professions program. Minimum qualifications are students who will have completed their sophomore year of undergraduate schooling by summer 2014 and possess a strong interest in rural healthcare. Students from the following disciplines are eligible: medicine, physician assistant, nursing, pharmacy, social work, public health, physical therapy, dietetics, and other health profession students as appropriate. Selected students will receive a $1,500 stipend, meals and housing.
The purpose of this preceptorship experience is to provide an interprofessional training experience for health professions students in a rural setting. St. Mary’s Hospital has been offering students this preceptorship experience for five years.
