Our vision for the future . . .

Take a virtual tour of the facility - just press play to see more!

St. Mary's Good Samaritan is accommodating growth and anticipated advances in patient care and technology with the Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in southern Illinois. The new facility we're planning will benefit our entire community, and each patient we serve.

Replacing a facility originally built in 1952, the 359,000-square-foot, 138-bed replacement hospital nearly doubles the size of its predecessor and adds an attached 141,000-square-foot medical office building and ambulatory surgery center with its own entrance.  The new facility will be located on the southwest side of Mt. Vernon, near the new I-57 interchange, adjacent to the Center for Comprehensive Cancer Care and the Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois.

The hospital features three separate entrances-one for visitors, one for emergency care and one for outpatient services. Each entrance has its own reception and waiting areas. Service corridors and elevators were positioned to eliminate cross-traffic between these areas while still permitting interaction among staff and physicians.

Patient- and family-centered care is a key consideration to the design and is addressed through the  incorporation of soothing elements of nature. From flexible private patient rooms that accommodate patient and family needs, to artwork on public corridor walls, to the abundance of healing gardens on the property, there is consistent use of color, light and materials that bring the natural environment into the healing process.

The project makes a strong commitment to sustainability, following the Green Guide for Healthcare to create an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly facility. Specially chosen roofing materials reflect light and heat away from the building, lowering energy costs. A green roof system exemplifies the facility's commitment to incorporating nature inside and out, improving thermal insulation while providing a serene view for patients.
